What is the difference between a cutting board and charcuterie board?
The main difference is the orientation of the wood used to create the board. Charcuterie boards are typically made using face grain wood which most people agree looks better than the edge or end grain typically used as cutting boards (Our end grain cutting boards are pretty snazzy though). Face grain, however, will more easily show knife marks and scratches and is not as durable as edge grain or end grain boards. For more details, please take a look at our Wood 101 page.
How do I clean my product?
Board Maintenance instructions are included with every purchase, The most important thing to remember is to not soak your product in water or put it in the dishwasher. Doing so will almost definitely warp your board or cause other issues. In case you lose the instructions, they are also on our Board Care page.
Aren’t plastic cutting boards more sanitary than wooden ones?
Many people (chef’s included) assume that plastic cutting boards are the more sanitary choice to keep in the kitchen. Plastic initially provides a less porous surface and can be sanitized with less effort. However, as knife marks pile up with use, bacteria has more and more places to grow. Wood cutting boards can get knife marks as well, but research shows that wood pores have some ability to heal themselves (especially end grain boards) and wood pores can even trap and kill bacteria within its fibers.
Additionally, if a wood cutting board has too much wear and tear on its surface, you can simply sand it down to return it to like-new condition.
My board is looks really dry or has some knife marks from heavy use. What do I do?
Each board purchase from our online store comes with a tin of our food safe board wax. Applying this wax every month will help protect the wood and prevent it from getting too dried out. However, if your board is in really bad shape it may be time to let the board soak up some more food safe mineral oil. To do this, wipe the oil on all surfaces of your cleaned and dried board using a cotton rag or shop towel. Let the oil sit on the surface for a few hours and then wipe off whatever remains. You can apply multiple “coats” of oil this way if your board still looks dry, but one coat should usually do the trick. After you are satisfied apply an additional coat of board wax to give the board an extra protective finish.
However we understand the board wax we provide with purchase won’t last forever. Additional tins are available in our store or there are several other similar products on the market if you prefer to shop around. Food grade mineral oil can be purchased at home improvement stores, grocery stores, convenience stores and online. Brand does not matter that much, just make sure it says food safe on the label. Do not use olive oil or other cooking oils as it can go rancid.
If your board has seen some heavy use over time and is starting to show a lot of deep knife marks, another advantage of wood boards over plastic is that you can sand down the wood and create a brand new surface. To do this either hand sand or power sand starting with 80 grit sandpaper, then 120 grit, and finish with 240 grit. After sanding wipe off all dust and re-condition your board with mineral oil and wax.

Shipping cost will be determined by weight and carrier. Items will be shipped within 5 business days. We currently do not take international orders.

Conditions of return:
Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. Item must be returned in its original condition. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value.
